Axion quality and fifth force

نویسندگان

چکیده

We investigate what it takes for the axion to address strong $CP$ problem in presence of explicit Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking effects besides interaction. In cases where Peccei-Quinn-Higgsing scalar field directly couples Standard Model sector, is pointed out that existing fifth force experiments can set better constraints on quality over neutron electric dipole moment.

Fifth Force from Fifth Dimension

Using a novel coordinate system, we rederive the eld equations and equations of motion for 5-dimensional relativity in the general case where the metric can depend on all 5 coordinates (i.e., Kaluza-Klein theory without the cylinder restriction). We show that in general the fth dimension produces a new dynamical force in 4-dimensional spacetime. This timelike fth force is proportional to the 4-...

Ten Years of the Fifth Force

The suggestion in 1986 of a possible gravity-like “fifth” fundamental force renewed interest in the question of whether new macroscopic forces are present in nature. Such forces are predicted in many theories which unify gravity with the other known forces, and their presence can be detected by searching for apparent deviations from the predictions of Newtonian gravity. We review the phenomenol...

QCD Axion and Quintessential Axion

The axion solution of the strong CP problem is reviewed together with the other strong CP solutions. We also point out the quintessential axion(quintaxion) whose potential can be extremely flat due to the tiny ratio of the hidden sector quark mass and the intermediate hidden sector scale. The quintaxion candidates are supposed to be the string theory axions, the model independent or the model d...

Exploring Fifth Force Interactions with 18th Century Technology

Many theories which unify gravity with the other known forces of nature predict the existence of an intermediate-range “fifth force” similar to gravity. Such a force could be manifest as a deviation from the gravitational inverse-square law. Currently, at distances near 10m, the inverse-square law is known to be correct to about one part per thousand. I present the design of an experiment that ...

con - straints on a Yukawa - like fifth force

First evidence of the general relativistic grav-itomagnetic field of the Sun and new constraints on a Yukawa-like fifth force Abstract The post-Newtonian general relativistic gravitomagnetic Lense-Thirring precessions of the perihelia of the inner planets of the Solar System amount to ≤ 10 −3 arcseconds per century. Up to now they were always retained too small to be detected. Recent improvemen...
